“Kimberlite” is a mélange of shapes and forms that do not seek to represent any object that is found in nature, but instead create an earthier, largely “mineral” feel by drawing the focus of the beholder to the innate quality of silver and gemstones.
The designs incorporate sparkling cubic zirconia, but the setting of the stones makes sure that these do not become the central focus of the designs, but rather, compliment the feel of the metal in which they are set.
The designer has explored a new form of stone-setting so as to create an encrusted look which lends itself well to the overall “mineral” feel of the collection. In fact, the “mineral” inspiration behind the look of the collection is Kimberlite, a volcanic rock which is found to be encrusted with gemstones in a similar way, most notably diamonds. Kimberlite comes up from deep within the Earth in what are known as Kimberlite pipes, formed when cannonballs of magma erupt and shoot up to the surface of the earth at supersonic speeds. The depth from which Kimberlite comes up renders it rich in minerals that are not normally found on the surface. A lot of carbon is also thrown up with Kimberlite but only when the magma shoots up with the right force (creating the right amount of heat and speed), and gets to cool down swiftly enough that the carbon turns into diamonds.
