Drawing her inspiration from the gorgeous Bougainvillea, Suman Mishra has created a collection of six styles which explores the form and beauty of the plant, abstracting its flowers and leaves in sterling silver. These abstractions, accented with gemstones, re-create the plant in various forms - Cascading vines, resplendent with blossoms, with a few leaves barely pushing through; The bare vine that holds a single flower somewhere along its length; The gentle, almost translucent, white bougainvillea in a beautiful interplay of opalescent flowery white and the vivid summer green of its leaves. Semi-precious stones like Carnelian, Amethyst, Citrine, Rock Crystal, Coral and Pearl, come together in eclectic clusters to re-create the inflorescence feel. Silver, drawn, shaped and hammered presents the structural and textural counterpoint to the gemstones, completing the suggestion of summer fauna. The resultant look of the collection is boho-chic. Hence the name “Bohovillea”, an obvious play on the words “bohemian” and “bougainvillea”.
